The Applause Test Case Management (TCM) for Jira is an Atlassian Marketplace app that will display all Applause TCM test data in real-time as part of your Jira ticket, making it easier for Jira users to have visibility into statuses, bugs reported, test cycles.
The idea is if you have a story or a bug in your Jira that’s being tested in Applause with a test case, as part of the Jira ticket for that story or bug you will see the information about the test case, including when it was run and what were the results.

Installing and Configuring Applause TCM for Jira
First, the Applause TCM for Jira app needs to be enabled for your Jira Cloud instance from the Atlassian Marketplace. This can be done by your Jira Admin.
- Go to https://www.atlassian.net/jira/marketplace/discover
- Search for “Applause Test Case Management for Jira”
- Enable it by clicking on the “Get app” button and click “Get it now” in the popup window.
To further manage the added app in Jira:
- Open your Jira instance
- Navigate to Apps in the top toolbar and select “Manage your apps”
- In the left navigation bar, select “Applause Test Case Management for Jira”
Now you need to connect it to your company’s Applause account. This will be done by an API Key you can easily generate from the Applause platform:
Note: API Keys can only be generated by a user with the role Primary Manager.
- Open https://platform.applause.com.
- Navigate to Configuration -> API Keys from the left navigation bar.
- Click the Generate New API Key button on the top left corner of the page.
- Enter a Key Name and specify a product if necessary.
- Click Generate Key.

- Copy the generated API key by either clicking Copy Key & Close or clicking on the generated key.

- Now go to the Applause Test Case Management for Jira Settings in Jira and paste the copied API key into the Applause API Key field.
- Click “Submit”, and confirm that the API Key Status updates to “Valid”.

Linking Applause Test Cases to Jira Tickets
In order for the connection between an Applause test case and a Jira ticket to work, you need to reference the Jira ticket in the Applause test case.

- In the Applause platform, navigate to Test Case Management from the left side menu.
- Open the editing window of the relevant test case.
- In the References section click Add Reference.
- For the Reference Label specify any desired label.
- In the Reference Value enter the link to the Jira ticket.
- For the Integration specify Jira.
A test case can be linked to multiple Jira tickets, and a Jira ticket can be linked to multiple test cases.
How the Integration Between Applause and Jira Works
Every time a user in Jira opens a ticket, the Applause TCM for Jira app queries Applause to whether the company that the API key belongs to has any reference to the ticket, and if it does, it pulls the information and displays it in Jira.
Using Applause TCM for Jira
Applause section
Once the app is installed and configured, within Jira stories or bugs you will see the Applause section.

Hint: You may need to click on the “Applause” button at the top of the Jira ticket to expand the Applause section.
The Applause section shows an overview of the testing.
- On the far left it shows the overall testing status:
- If a single test case is failed, the status will be Failed
- Else, if a single test case is blocked, it’s Blocked
- Else, if no test case is passed and any of the test cases is completed, it’s Completed
- Else, if any of the test cases is passed, it’s Passed
- Pending - If all the test cases are still in progress, or not yet tested
- Note: In case test cases are executed over multiple test cycles, only the results of the latest test cycle are considered per each of the test cases. This aims to ensure accurate overall testing status over time (for instance, if a bug of a failed test case is fixed for a later product build and the test case is re-run and passes).
- The number of unresolved bugs
- In Jira, a bug is considered unresolved if it’s not closed.
- In Applause, a bug is considered unresolved if it’s not flagged as Resolved.
- The total number of Active test cases linked in to the Jira ticket in the Applause platform
- The latest date and time testing was performed, across all test cases on any test cycle
